WHAT IS HUNGER?
People who suffer chronic hunger do not get enough calories, essential nutrients, or both. They have an ongoing problem with access to food. It is commonly known that the cause of hunger in the world is not a shortage of food but rather access to food.
For many families, some weeks are hungrier than others. These usually come toward the end of the month, as families run short of food before they have money to buy more. People can’t simply decide to spend less on rent, but if necessary, they can spend less on food.
WHAT CAUSES HUNGER?
Poverty is the main cause of hunger in the world. This is true in rich and poor countries alike. Most people who are hungry are living in extreme poverty, defined as income of $1.25 per day or less.
African American households face hunger at a rate more than twice that of white, non-Hispanic households. And getting enough to eat is a consistent struggle for 1 in 4 African American children.
WHERE DOES IT EXIST?
The 10 counties with the highest food insecurity rates in the nation are at least 60% African American. Seven of the 10 counties are located in Mississippi.
Nearly 15 percent of U.S. households — approximately 49 million Americans, including 15.9 million children — struggle to put food on the table. Here the measure of hunger is “food insecurity” — an ongoing uncertainty of where the next meal will come from.
HOW WE FIGHT THE ROOT CAUSES OF POVERTY
We fight poverty using technology that lives in the palm of your hand!
Our technology is dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty and connecting people to opportunities that enrich their lives. When we talk about intergenerational poverty, we're talking about a cycle that limits access to opportunities, education, resources and social mobility. Often times, people are trapped in poverty because they are forced to use all of their time, energy and resources on dealing with the significant challenges of meeting their immediate needs, never getting the opportunity to connect to longer-term resources.
At Amplify, our technology provides three key objectives to fight the causes and effect of poverty:
We us technology to augment existing social patterns, rather than replacing them – a kind of inversion of some of the more detrimental effects of technology that prioritizes uplifting invaluable human resources rather than transplanting them.
One of the main causes of poverty is lack of access to either food, education or resources for building a better life. Using technology, we can empower people in the most challenging communities access to opportunities that will transform their lives.
No matter where you live, most people have technology in the palm of their hands and because of this connection we are able to provide resources to those in-need all by the click of a few buttons. We use smartphones, artificial intelligence and machine learning – to identify and drive out the causes and effect of poverty in the African American communities.
HELP MY NEIGHBOR INITIATIVE
Global Initiative Fighting the Causes and Effects of Poverty
Amplify Network has launched a global initiative called "Help My Neighbor" ,in conjunction with our "#Ideclare Social Campaign" . This initiative aims to inspire global community leaders, residents and businesses to help those who are in direct need living in their own communities.
Help My Neighbor Initiative supports a spirit of service, giving back to others and supporting each other through the issues we face daily. We believe that the simplest acts of kindness can change a person’s life for the better, so partner with Amplify and let’s #declare to help our neighbors.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Ending hunger requires more than just giving people a meal today. Addressing the root causes of hunger — primarily poverty — is just as important. As long as people don’t have the resources they need to put food on the table, hunger will continue.
We are always looking for those who have a passion to serve others and help us fight poverty to end hunger. Join Amplify non-profit network of volunteers and begin working in what God has called you to do.
